Mastering Napa’s Mountain Appellations

Diamond Mountain: Above Calistoga in the Napa Valley’s most northwestern quadrant sits the Diamond Mountain AVA, a continuation of the Mayacamas Mountains. An AVA since 2001, the appellation goes from 400 to 2,200 feet above sea level. Its fine-grained, ash-like soils contain shards of reflective volcanic glass, which inspired the name.
