2008 J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon

SOLD OUT

“Dark perfumed aromas of blueberry and brambleberry are accentuated with mocha, vanilla cream, and tobacco. The palate is bold, complex and fruitful. Wild berry compote and black cherry flavors mingle with notes of black tea and dark chocolate. All aspects are seamlessly brought together with fine grain tannins that sustain a long and luxurious finish.”

- Sean Thompson & Hugh Davies, Winemakers

Elegance and complexity with a deep dark berry structure characterize this serious Diamond Mountain hillside wine. While showing purity of fruit from this southernmost vineyard on Diamond Mountain, it's still remains softer than most hillside wines, which is a tribute to the special terroir here on the Schramsberg estate, and the capable hands of the winemakers. This Bordeaux blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, and 4% Petit Verdot was aged in 85% new and 15% used French oak barrels for 22 months. Additionally, this wonderful eighth vintage has been provided six months in bottle to blend and mature even more gracefully. Estate grown here on the Schramsberg property, the wine has become a true expression of our Diamond Mountain hillside vineyards. Just over 2,000 cases were produced, with magnums and three liters also available in limited quantities.

Diamond Mountain District 2008

"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beauty of elegance and power, revealing a dense ruby/purple color as well as lovely black currant fruit intermixed with black cherries, loamy soil and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied and elegant as well as authoritatively flavored and rich, this blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot has tamed the mountain rusticity and offers rich fruit and floral flavors that have more in common with the Stags Leap appellation."

J. DAVIES Cabernet Sauvignon
Diamond Mountain District 2008

Dark, intense and structured, at points supple and graceful, with ripe currant, wild berry, plum and savory herb notes that are well-focused, persistent and compelling, only drying on the long finish. Best from 2012 through 2022.
