There is a very limited allocation of the 2010 vintage to be sold directly and last year's vintage sold out in a flash. We do have magnums and double magnums available as well.

2010 J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon

“Dark perfumed aromas of boysenberry and plum combine with cocoa, vanilla cream, and tobacco. The palate is bold, complex and fruitful. Loganberry and black cherry mingle with Earl Grey tea and dark chocolate, and are seamlessly brought together with fine grain tannins that sustain a long and luxurious finish.”

- Sean Thompson & Hugh Davies, Winemakers

Elegance and complexity with a deep dark berry structure characterize this serious Diamond Mountain hillside wine. While showing purity of fruit from this southernmost vineyard on Diamond Mountain, it's still remains softer than most hillside wines, which is a tribute to the special terroir here on the Schramsberg estate, and the capable hands of the winemakers. This Bordeaux blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Malbec was aged in 70% new and 30% used French oak barrels for 24 months. Additionally, this wonderful nineth vintage has been provided six months in bottle to blend and mature even more gracefully. Estate grown here on the Schramsberg property, the wine has become a true expression of our Diamond Mountain hillside vineyards. Just over 2,000 cases were produced, with magnums and three liters also available in limited quantities.

"The J. Davies 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon brings together a juicy, generous expression of fruit allied to the underlying structure of the vintage. A beautifully balanced, totally harmonious wine, the 2010 stands out for its impeccable balance. All the elements are simply in the right place. Wild flowers, mint and sweet herbs ring out on the vibrant, beautifully delineated finish."

"Concentrated, quite keenly defined with a bent to cassis, dark cherries and nicely fit adjuncts of oak and dried herbs, Davies is a slightly fleshy, very wellstructured Cabernet that impresses more for its fine sense of proportion than for out and out heft. Its early impressions of polish lessen a bit as a touch of back-end toughness arrives, but its minor sins are entirely those of youth. It is no tannic beast that demands a decade of age, and it should begin to round into fine shape in three or four years." "

J. DAVIES Cabernet Sauvignon
Diamond Mountain District 2009

"The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Davies emerges from the glass with freshly cut flowers, mint, plums and graphite. It is a sensual, delicate wine with plenty of depth, but in a less obvious style than so many other wines. It shows gorgeous finesse all the way through to the finish. This is an impressive showing."

"This wine continues to improve. Supple, graceful and delicate, exhibiting a core of loamy earth, currant, herb and floral scents that retain their elegance on the finish."

“Schramsberg’s Hugh Davies has been working for years toward a red wine that matches the quality of his sparkling, and in 2009 his Calistoga property, which encompasses some of Napa’s earlier hillside vineyard sites, was fully dialed in. It needs cellar time to shine, but here’s the full power of his site on display - a tightly-wound and savory mouthful: sagebrush, tobacco, mint and black coffee, with dark fruit brooding and a spectacular expression of that loamy Diamond Mountain character."
