There is a very limited allocation of the 2011 vintage to be sold directly and last year's vintage sold out in a flash. We do have magnums and double magnums available as well.

2011 J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon

“Dark perfumed aromas of boysenberry and plum combine with cocoa, vanilla cream, and tobacco. The palate is bold, complex and fruitful. Loganberry and black cherry mingle with Earl Grey tea and dark chocolate, and are seamlessly brought together with fine grain tannins that sustain a long and luxurious finish.”

- Sean Thompson & Hugh Davies, Winemakers

Elegance and complexity with a deep dark berry structure characterize this serious Diamond Mountain hillside wine. While showing purity of fruit from this southernmost vineyard on Diamond Mountain, it's still remains softer than most hillside wines, which is a tribute to the special terroir here on the Schramsberg estate, and the capable hands of the winemakers. This Bordeaux blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and14% Malbec was aged in 90% new and 10% used French oak barrels for 24 months. Additionally, this wonderful eleventh vintage has been provided 12 months in bottle to blend and mature even more gracefully. Estate grown here on the Schramsberg property, the wine has become a true expression of our Diamond Mountain hillside vineyards. 1,750 cases were produced, with magnums and three liters also available in limited quantities.

"The 2012 J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon from their estate on Diamond Mountain is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Malbec. A beauty, with raspberry, blueberry and even blacker fruits, the wine has a lusciousness, with silky tannins and real charm. If Châteaux Margaux made wine on Diamond Mountain it might well taste like this beauty. This is first-growth all the way: beautiful purity, symmetry, harmony and an ethereal lightness in spite of the richness and intensity. This is quite an achievement and already drinkable, but should continue to evolve nicely for 10-15+ years."

"Red Pure, rich, vivid blackberry and wild berry flavors form the core, with spicy notes of savory herb and cedary oak. Gains depth and plushness as the tannic strength develops. Drink now through 2028."

"The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite pretty. The addition of 17% Malbec gives the wine notable texture and richness. Plums, red cherries, mocha and spices are all beautifully delineated in the glass, but it is the wine's total sense of balance that truly stands out. This effortless, gracious Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for the next decade-plus."

"Made from essentially the same blend, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly more exotic with evolved aromas of white flowers, creme de cassis, licorice and graphite. This perfumed, medium to full-bodied wine possesses both power and elegance ... It should drink well for another 12-15 years."

"The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Davies is another pretty wine from J.Davies. Here the aromas and flavors are more floral, spiced and expressivethan in the entry-level JD. Raspberries, flowers, spices and licorice meldtogether on the resonant, generous finish. This is a remarkably textured, supple wine for the vintage and Diamond Mountain. The 2011 will drink well early and seems to be built for near-term pleasure. Readers won’t find too many 2011 Napa Valley Cabernets where the fruit is so juicy. There is certainly a lot to like here."

"A generous expression of mountain Cab, accompanied by 14% Malbec, also estate-grown, this rich, soft wine is remarkable for its texture and mouthfeel, which is velvety and smooth. Peppercorn, dried herb and chocolate pronounce themselves on the palate, provoking thoughts for a similarly accented meal.."

"Concentrated, quite keenly defined with a bent to cassis, dark cherries and nicely fit adjuncts of oak and dried herbs, Davies is a slightly fleshy, very wellstructured Cabernet that impresses more for its fine sense of proportion than for out and out heft. Its early impressions of polish lessen a bit as a touch of back-end toughness arrives, but its minor sins are entirely those of youth. It is no tannic beast that demands a decade of age, and it should begin to round into fine shape in three or four years." "
